Why Does A Healthcare Scientist Blog?

I’ve thinking about this… a LOT . Should I blog? What do I have to say?

The truth is, I passionately believe that those of us who have the privilege of working in science need to do more, communicate more, share more.

If you’re not part of this weird and wonderful profession it can appear mysterious and impenetrable. By writing this blog, I’m hoping to do a tiny bit to demystify the world I inhabit and to show you that science is for everyone, whether it’s your job or not.

A Bit About Me

If you look at the About the Science page you’d be forgiven for thinking that my journey in science, and to become a scientist, has been straight forward. The truth is far from it. From illness during my GCSE’s and A-Levels, to not thinking someone like me could be a scientist, the road has been far from straightforward.

That said, I’ve followed my heart and my passion and have been lucky enough to end up in a profession I adore. I work with patients, families and amazing staff to try and make their lives and journeys a tiny bit easier and safer.

When reading this blog, I hope you will see that being a scientist is not about being the smartest person in the room: you can be a scientist and still love TV. And gin. And cake!

Finally, I hope that we can journey together and collaborate. Science is made not just by scientists, but by all of us working together to make the world a better place.
