The Science and Art of Dreaming
Written by Mark Blagrove, and Julia Lockheart
The Science and Art of Dreaming is an innovative text that reviews the neuroscience and psychology of how dreams are produced, how they are recalled and their relationship to waking life events and concerns of the dreamer.
One of the dreams included in this is linked to a dream I talked about on social media during the early days of the SARS CoV2 pandemic. I have also blogged about the experience here.

Microbiology is one of the essential pharmaceutical sciences upon which the study and practice of pharmacy is built. It has a bearing on all aspects of the manufacture of medicines and sterile products, from their design and development to their delivery as quality products. Few interventions are more central to modern medicine than the treatment of infection, where antibiosis, vaccination and hygienic practices have essential roles to play. The COVID-19 pandemic, the appearance of new pathogens and the rise of antibiotic resistance have demonstrated most completely the need for pharmaceutical practitioners, researchers and industrial scientists to be fully conversant with this field.
I wrote the chapter on Infection Prevention and Control: Healthcare Associated Infection in this textbook published in 2023.

Wastiary: A Bestiary of Waste
Edited by Michael Hennessy Picard, Albert Brenchat-Aguilar, Timothy Carroll, Jane Gilbert, and Nicola Miller
Wastiary, or Bestiary of Waste, is a creative exercise that occupies letters, numbers, and symbols of Western academic language to compose a list of 35 short entries on the uncomfortable but pressing topic of waste in the contemporary world. The collection is richly illustrated with artwork, photography, collage and mixed media.
I wrote the chapter ‘Microbes’ for this 2023 book, which discusses how microbes both drive some of our energy use and offer a route to reducing our plastic waste.

Articles
Throughout my 20 year career I have regularly contributed articles to professional magazines and non-journal publications. Many examples of these can be found on google, as well as on the links page of this website. These articles have covered leadership, education, Healthcare Science and Infection Prevention and Control.
One of the most fun pieces I’ve written in recent years was part of a 4 article series for ID Transmission. My articles, Episode 1 and Episode 4, focussed on the real life fungal risks of a zombie pandemic as demonstrated in The Last of Us.
